In 1964, the neglected and overgrown Wirick Simmons house was purchased by JCHA. The home, located at 230 North Jefferson Street, in the downtown historic district of Monticello, Florida, serves dual functions as both the present-day Historical Association headquarters and as a museum exhibiting records and items of historic interest and value from the community. The home is an excellent example of Greek Revival, antebellum architecture, one of many in this exemplary historic town. The Wirick Simmons House is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes since 1972, and the Historic American Building Survey has given this home an award for excellence in preservation.
JCHA is here to preserve Jefferson County, Florida's history, antiquities, and local family oral & written histories by establishing an educational presence for the town of Monticello.
